Here we see the portrayal of man's struggle to control one's own nature. Note the hands, they are closed around the hair. Yet he denies this act, as if somehow to validate destroying the very being that made him. It's basic and primal, yet it portrays a certain enlightened achievement that we as a human race all strive for.
